Samantha and I have been together now for almost nine years. we’re not married but I usually refer to her as my wife as a matter of convenience.

It makes small talk with people so much more effective rather than needing to explain our long term relationship that involves being parents together, plus property owners and business partners.

If you have a compelling reason why we should get the old marriage license let me know.

Anyway, It’s Mother’s Day, and my little baby and I are hanging out on our deck enjoying the spring weather, waiting for Momma to get home and join us in the festivities.

Sam is a boss.

She’s just putting in a couple of morning hours at Bravos ‘cos that’s what she does on Sundays.

Hurry home Momma, Edie needs some mommy time!

Last year we had quite a wild ride together.

This exact weekend (May 14, 2017) marks the one year anniversary of the closing on our new house. I need to take you back a couple of months earlier than that.

There we were, March, 2017, tired of our work routine, and thoroughly ensconced in our middle thirties. As of then, we were completely unaware of our Edie situation. We had agreed to not-try-to-not have a baby.

That didn’t mean that we were aggressively baby-seeking, we were just not-trying-to-not have a child.

So, what was the solution to our first-world problems?

Sell our old house, buy a new house, and go on vacation, all at the same time!

Once again, I can’t enough tout the amazing world we live in. We were in New Orleans renting an air bnb, eating some of the best food in the world, day drinking like college kids on spring break, all the while electronically signing documents confirming the sale of our house.

Try to do that in the 1890’s.

Shortly after we return home, Sam discovers that our not-trying-to-not have a baby experiment has been a smashing success.

We expected that experiment to take much longer.

Better find a house to buy.

Actually, we had one picked out but needed to go through all the rigmarole of real estate financing before we could make an offer. S/O to JJ homes for bringing it all “home” on that one.

We were home from vacation, new house secure, and baby on the way. I told you we had an action packed year in 2016.

Now, we have a perfect little angel of a girl that keeps us plenty busy, and we love being home, spending time with her.

I couldn’t have chosen a better person to spend my life with than Samantha.

She is a wonderful mother to our Baby Edie, and a fantastic step-mother to my teenage son, Tyler.

I’m so happy for her to be experiencing the joy of raising a child as I wish her a happy Mother’s Day for the first time!

BONUS!

Edie was having a little trouble figuring out what kind of mood she’d be in this morning, so we took a picture of a few to keep our game of “baby faces” going on strong.
