I recently came to have a small revelation.
I’ve always tried to push myself to play my drums every day. When I was younger and played in a band that was gigging all the time, that wasn’t as much of a problem. Now, I play live much less, but have a studio 15 feet from my house. My drums are set up, mic’ed all the time, but I still couldn’t bring myself to pound the skins as often as I liked.
I needed a system to help me build a new habit.
Enter said revelation.
Why don’t I not only record when I jam on the drums, but also publish them, or at least segments of them, to Soundcloud.
That motivates me to keep going, and so far it’s been working.
I still can’t make it happen every single day, but I’ve been very close to the mark.
I’ve got a couple of weeks worth of sessions up on there now, and more to come.
I’ve been playing to a click, and making the tracks available for download in case anyone wants to use the tracks for whatever one may want raw drum tracks for.
You can rock out to them, or nod your head, depending on the beat. You can chop them, slice them, sample them, or literally drag and drop them into your daw and use them as your drum tracks.
I have a pretty nice set of drums, decent mics, and I like to share.
This will be a precursor to further productions involving my drums. I’m going to multi-sample my kit once the stars properly align, and be releasing some paid sound packs based on my drums and the room I record in.
Stay tuned for more drums coming out of Mike Lardy Creative Studio.
Now, I present to you: MLBreaks.
